Simply Good

“Your goodness is running after me.” I keep hearing these lyrics from the worship song, “Goodness of God,” in my spirit. James 1:17 tells us that “What is good comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens.”
As the Children’s Pastor, I thought it would be fun for me to include a Faith Kids’ experience this week in the Word of Encouragement. I wrote a Faith Kids lesson a few years ago titled, “The Ultimate Father.” In this particular lesson, the children were able to play with shaving cream, mini marshmallows, and goggles. Side Note: I will make sure to do something super fun with the adults the next time I preach. The kids played this game called “Covered in Goodness.” They played in teams of two. The first player put on goggles and then the second player applied shaving cream to their partner’s chin and cheeks like a beard. On my go, the second player then threw mini marshmallows at their partner’s face in hopes of getting them to stick. Obviously, we have a ton of fun together, but we always tie it back to the Word of God.
When the lesson was over, we discussed what each item represented. The goggles showed God’s protection in our lives. He is our shield and cover-always keeping us safe from harm. The shaving cream represented God’s Glory. God rejoices in our victories and wins. The mini marshmallows showed God’s goodness and blessings. God places great value on our lives.
God the Father, is generous. Genesis 1:26 tells us that He created this beautiful world for us to enjoy. He also gave us His one and only Son, Jesus, to offer us eternal life (John 3:16). God wants His children (that’s you and me) to put our hope in Him and enjoy His gifts in our lives.
God the Father, is our Protector. The idea that our Heavenly Father is bigger than the world’s father just makes me smile from ear to ear. Just saying that, peace floods my heart. We can take heart knowing that He is with us always and promises us that He will never leave us or forsake us.
God the Father is Good and He is love. Matthew 19:17 says “…why do you call me good? No one is good but One, that is God.” Romans 2:4 tells us that God is patient, kind, and merciful.
This may sound too simple or “too good to be true” to someone reading it, and that’s ok. I think it is important to understand that God’s love for us and His goodness really IS simple. We, as Christians, make everything so complicated and make it so unattainable that people run from the very thing that could change their circumstances. When we present God’s goodness in a simple way, others are attracted to that and want to experience it. I encourage you today, share the goodness of God with others. Share ALL the things He has done for you in your life…even the simple things. The world is searching for answers even when they are right in front of their faces. When I walk into the room, I want people to see God’s goodness!
Love you all,
Pastor Jennifer
